Matt JonesCo-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Veramed
Since Veramed was B Corporation™ certified in 2020, it has grown from 160 to over 400 staff, and has added several new dimensions to their business, including additional geographies and entities, which were all evaluated and verified during the re-certification process. Throughout this growth phase, they have stayed true to their culture, which recognizes the value of putting their people and key stakeholders first. This is evidenced by one of the areas in which they demonstrated most improvement during the recertification process, the Workers Impact Area, which looks at contributions to employee’s financial security, health and safety, wellness, career development and satisfaction. In recent years they have formalized their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies and introduced a wide range of initiatives related to this through the Veramed Culture Club.
The B Corp™ certification addresses all parts of a business’ operations covering five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of 80 or above, while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, each business must amend their governing documentation to consider stakeholder interests alongside shareholder profits. And for total transparency, B Corp™ certified companies must publish their impact report, sharing their performance with the public.
Becoming a Certified B Corp™ in 2020 gave Veramed a benchmark across the five key B Corp™ pillars. These pillars now act as cornerstones of their organization and are the foundation from which they make decisions and agree on initiatives. Their successful recertification is illustrative of continued commitment to considering all stakeholders, including workers, customers, the community and environment, as the organization continues to grow.
