Business Development Director

The Business Development Director acts as the head of the Business Development department, reporting directly into the Board, and serves two key roles within the business: a business role (i.e. providing input into strategic planning to develop and grow the organisation) and a supervisory role (i.e. running the business development department).

Key responsibilities

Strategic Business Development

  • Working with the Company Board members to define the Business Development strategy
  • Translating strategy into a cogent and achievable Business Development plan
  • Information provision for the purposes of business tracking and forecasting (activity, pipeline, sales, progress against
    targets etc.) reporting progress at Company Board meetings
  • Support Board to identify industry trends to predict future potential offerings and opportunities

Direct Business Development

  • Researching organisations, individuals and market trends to identify commercial opportunities for existing services
  • Attending conferences, meetings, and relevant industry events to enhance market presence and identify new business leads
  • Direct sales activity (contacting clients, attending sales meetings etc)
  • Enhancing value of existing client accounts

Pitching services

  • Preparing presentations for client meetings, including bid defence meetings
  • Developing quotes and proposals with input from operational team members
  • Negotiating and renegotiating by phone, email, and in person

People Management

  • Developing sales goals for the Business Development department and ensuring they are met
  • Providing leadership and direction to staff regarding departmental policies, organizational goals, objectives, performance management and company policies

 

We are looking for applicants with the following requirements:

Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • A proven track record in business development within the CRO sector
  • In-depth knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and CRO services
  • BSc or BA
Other Information/ Additional Requirements
  • Able to inspire, set strategic direction and operate at Board-level
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Self-motivated and accountable: willing to generate ideas and be proactive in pursuing the commercial objectives of the business
